'' An Evening with Rick Stein''

A taste of 'mighty oaks from little acorns grow' as Simply Wood provides the demonstration kitchen for 'An Evening with Rick Stein'
Simply Wood' the Kilkhampton-based designers and manufacturers of bespoke, handmade kitchens who started from home courtesy of a business allowance scheme 26 years ago proudly watched Rick Stein cook in their new custom-designed mobile kitchen during the 'Evening with Rick Stein' event at The Poly in Falmouth recently.
To mark their 25th year in business, Simply Wood installed a 'Chef's Kitchen' in their purpose-built showroom just outside Bude and have for the last year been busy entertaining foodies with cookery master classes in conjunction with renowned local chefs, all in an effort to raise funds for 25 ShelterBoxes - one to mark each year of the company.
Demand for the cookery evenings was so high that the company decided to build a mobile version of the kitchen for demonstrations 'on the move' at food events and festivals. This was launched in May at the 'Dartington Food Fair' and has since been seen at the 'Royal Cornwall Show' and 'Royal Duchy Food & Drink Show' before being requested for the Rick Stein event. Other prestigious bookings follow later in the year including the 'Cornwall Food & Drink Festival', 'National Gardening Show' and 'Padstow Christmas Festival'.
The kitchen, hand built from ash and reclaimed oak with high-gloss acrylic panelling is both functional and aesthetic and lends itself well to show surroundings with its colour, natural light and quality craftsmanship. After the 'Evening with Rick Stein', Ken Parker, the founder and owner of Simply Wood said 'just as experienced chefs like Rick are passionate about the ingredients for the food they cook and present, we too have an ingrained sense of quality, individuality and provenance in our kitchens. Our designs work well for those who love to cook so having Rick using our mobile facility was a perfect and rewarding fit. From humble beginnings in a Cornish village in 1985, who would have thought we would be where we are today and looking forward to even more first class foodie events in the future.'
Rick Stein commented 'thanks very much to Simply Wood for providing the great kitchen for the demonstration I did at Falmouth Poly to raise funds for them in August'.

The next move of the Mobile Kitchen

Simply wood will be taking its new mobile chef's kitchen to the Cornwall Food and Drink festival at Lemon Quay, Truro to be used for the chef's theatre event. Over three days some of Cornwall's top chef's will be demonstrating on the kitchen, including headlining chef Nathan Outlaw who has won two Michelin stars, also demonstrating will be a firm favourite throughout Cornwall Jude Kereama of Kota Portleven. Two of Rik Steins head chefs will also be appearing. The website for the festival has quoted the following about our participation in the upcoming event 'We've got a packed and varied programme all three days in our professional demonstration theatre, the centrepiece of which is a stunning new kitchen hand-made by Bude designers, Simply Wood'. The initial idea for the Mobile kitchen actually came around last year when designer Mark Trewin visited the festival. He noticed that a very basic kitchen was being used for the demo's, He immediately saw potential for simply wood to design a kitchen that would not only showcase a thoroughly modern and easy to use kitchen but also enhance the look of the stage itself by adding real quality light and colour. The Cornwall Food and Drink Festival is from the 23rd to the 25th September and we hope to see all you food and drink lovers there. Just a quick note to let you all know that we will soon be letting you in on exactly what Mr Stein thought of our mobile kitchen when he booked it for a one off night at the Falmouth Poly.

The Mobile Chefs Kitchen Is Here!

The long awaited, totally portable working kitchen designed and hand-built by Simply Wood is now complete and ready for its first outing! The kitchen has been cleverly designed so that it can be set-up and packed away quickly and efficiently by the Simply Wood team and comprises of two chefs islands, two ovens, hobs and a couple of fridges.

The first showing of the Chefs kitchen will be in the food & drink tent at the Dartington Food Fair (28th - 30th May) where both islands will be in use for all three days with a wide range of chefs and local producers showing off their skills to a food loving audience.

"This is a new venture for us," says designer Mark Trewin. "I visited the Cornwall Food and Drink show last September in Truro and saw the now 2 michellin star chef Nathan Outlaw at work on what was a very basic looking kitchen. Immediately I saw the potential for something really stunning up there and made contact with the event organisers to see if they would be interested in us sponsoring the 2011 festival. They were and we've been working hard on the design ever since!"

With more contact made within the Southwest food & drink industry, including Taste of The West and the Royal Cornwall Show, Mark and the team are already signed up to be main sponsors of five foodie events in 2011 alone, where the new kitchen will take pride of place in the Chefs cooking theatre.
