70% Can't Stay Away!

Following a recent analysis of who our customers are and where they come from, we were very pleased to find that over 70% are either repeat customers, or referrered to us by people who have previously had a bespoke Simply Wood product.

In a day and age where loyalty is often considered old-fashioned, and many products are bought purely on price, we feel this is the ultimate accolade towards the clever design and quality of craftsmanship that go into our products.

Feature: Sustainable Hardwoods

Timber is an ecologically sound product, as in theory we can maintain a balance of the amount of timber we harvest to the amount of new trees that are planted. Historically many countries didn't work in this manner, which is why the FSC was established in 1993.

FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an independent organization established to promote the responsible management of the world's forests.

FSC provides internationally recognised standard-setting, trademark assurance and accreditation services to companies, organisations, and communities interested in responsible forestry.

Simply Wood are proud to only use FSC acredited hardwoods to ensure your kitchen is not only well designed and long-lasting, but from sustainable sources.

25th Anniversary Charity Chef Evening

Simply Wood is celebrating 25 years of trading this year, and as part of our celebrations we recently held a charity chef evening at our showrooms in Kilkhampton.

The evening kicked off with a glass of Mionetto Prosecco, followed by a brief talk by Margaret Dingle from Shelterbox whom the evening was in aid of. Kit Davis from the Castle Restaurant in Bude then took centre stage on our demo Blakewell kitchen. Kit prepared and cooked from scratch a selection of party canapés, inmcluding rare roast beef and home-made horseradish sauce crostini, home smoked salmon, capers and crème fraiche canapés and honeycomb macaroons.

Oliver Tullett from North Coast Wines was alongside Kit throughout, introducing suitable wines and informing the 40 guests of the wine's characteristics and origin. The evening finished with the crowd helping helping themselves to the fine canapés fresh from the oven.

Thanks to the £540 raised from the Chef night, meaning we have now funded a second Shelterbox this year.

SIMPLY WOOD FUNDS ITS FIRST SHELTERBOX!

One down and twenty-four to go ! On our mission to raise enough money to provide one shelterbox (£500) for every year of business we have just passed our first goal of £500.

Well done to Emma Adams, Lyndsey Pizani and Emma Harris who gave up their Saturday to shake collection tins around town raising over £70. Then in the evening Emma and Emma toured the pubs and clubs in Bude raising a further £200!

The combination of their hard work and a series of recent donations have got us to the £500 mark and we would like to thank Trewin Design in Holsworthy, Juice advertising in Bournmouth and Crisp Marketing from Exeter all for the recent donations.

Our next fund raiser is on April 28th when we'll be hosting a special evening of fine food and wine. Give us a call to find out more.

Fund Raising for Shelterbox

Simply Wood will be celebrating its 25th Birthday in April and to mark the occassion they are planning a series of events to raise enough money for 25 shelterboxes within 25 months.

Mark says, "Shelterbox is such a well run charity and you can see where your money goes, litteraly box by box. At a cost of just under £500 per box including delivery to the country in need it really is money well spent.

"As well as Simply Wood celebrating 25 years in business, shelterbox is in its 10th year and being a Cornish based charity, choosing them as our charity makes sense."

The events being planned by Mark and his team so far...

Two masterchef evenings (Spring and Autumn) where a local chef will demonstrate his or her skills live in front of an audience of around 50 people, hoping to fund four shelterboxes in total.

Two collection weekends around Bude, hopefully being able to demonstrate a complete shelterbox kit, whilst collecting money around the town. Targeting two shelterboxes

Mark is planning an epic shelterbox challenge by pulling a full shelterbox for 25 miles within 25 hours around north Cornwall & Devon....this is still in the very early stages of planning and he hopes this event can take place in September. With the support Simply Woods suppliers, customers and friends, Mark is hoping to fund 12 boxes.

Emma and Lyndsey from Simply Wood hope to get their colleagues involved in a cycle ride from Lands End back to Kilkhampton, passing through the shelterbox HQ in Helston en-route, raising 1 box per rider....so that means 7 riders will be needed to make a total of 25 boxes!

"It'll be good fun," says Lyndsey,"All spending time together out of work for a good cause, not sure I'm looking forward to the bike training though!"

For anyone wishing to make a donation towards the charity and help Simply Wood break the 25 box target you can do so securely online at www.justgiving.com/simplywood or by sending a cheque to Mark, payable to Shelter box.

The Castle Restaurant raises more for charity

The Castle Restaurant in Bude, North Cornwall is hosting a week of charity lunches at the end of February in aid of Children's Hospice South West's Precious Lives Appeal. Guests are invited to join us and enjoy a two course lunch for £12.50 whilst also donating money to this wonderful local cause to help build a children's hospice in Cornwall.

Having two young children himself, Kit Davis the Patron/Head Chef of The Castle recognised the importance of charities such as the Children's Hospice South West and the incredible work they do.

Kit says:
"After being asked to present a cooking demonstration at the Simply Wood Kitchen Showroom in Kilkhampton in aid of Children's Hospice South West I wondered if there was more I could do to help. And after some thought and discussion The Castle Restaurant week of Charity lunches was born."

Guests can book a table with us from Monday 22nd February until Saturday 27th February and enjoy a two course lunch in this 1 AA Rosetted Restaurant for just £12.50. Donation envelopes will be given out with guests bills for them to give any amount they feel appropriate, all of which will be passed directly onto the charity itself.

Judy Pride, Community Fundraiser for Children's Hospice South West says:
"All donations received will go towards helping to build Little Harbour - a children's hospice here in Cornwall.
"Like Little Bridge House in North Devon and Charlton Farm in Somerset, Little Harbour will be a special place where families with life-limited children can enjoy precious time together.

"Supporting our local cause at The Castle Restaurant Charity Lunch Week is an incredibly simple and effective, not to mention tasty, way to help."
